  • CCA Speck and Redfish Tourney

Anyone fishing the CCA Speck and Redfish tournament this weekend or did you all use all your free hall passes on the CBKA tourney?! It was a great time last year and I would highly recommend it. The speck bite is picking and a few pups are biting if you're lucky enough to run into em!

Here is the link if anyone is interested.

I'm registered... not sure where I will fish yet though. Definitely think I'll need to go pretty far south if I want to catch anything other than a striper though... if anybody has a good suggestion for me, please PM!

I highly recommend attending this tournament! It's a great time and the dinner on Saturday is an excellent opportunity to meet some of the best boat anglers (AND KAYAK!) in our region. Pick their brains!

If I can get back from out of town for work I'll be there!

I got a spec all the way up Shipping Creek Saturday. He was only 8", but a spec is a spec!

Im on vacation this week and just saw this, and very interested. Im kinda on the fence though cause Ive never been down there and would be going alone. Ive also never fished for either species & would be in the dark.

Is there fishable stuff w/in a decent paddle range?

Absolutely. Last year, the top four or five places were help by kayakers. Here is a map of launch sites in the area. I believe it is post #27 on the thread. Depending on the wind (they are calling for a NE) most of these places should be fairly sheltered, but obviously check NOAA beforehand.

Another good resource for weather info is windfinder.com (URL added for general Chesapeake Bay). Can check tide predictions from that site also...I do wonder if there's a daylight savings time setting that is incorrect though, seems the tides are an hour later than predicted.

Not sure how far south you can go for the tournament. The reds were definitely bumping around kipto last weekend so I'm sure there are some up that way as well. I couldn't get any to take my usual go-to of paddletails, or any other artificials for that matter. Chunks of fresh caught mullet did work though, and I'm sure a popping cork w a live one would be even better, so don't forget the cast net.

Thanks for the tip. Rules say:

GEAR RESTRICTED TO FLY AND LIGHT TACKLE ONLY. NO BAIT

FISHING IS RESTRICTED TO THE MARYLAND AND VIRGINIA PORTIONS OF THE CHESAPEAKE BAY INCLUDING TRIBUTARIES.
So, no bait, but pretty much the entire bay is within the acceptable boundaries.

Wish I knew the lower bay a little better, I know there's some great spots closer than kipto. Good luck to all !
