  • Belle Grove Remains Miserly

On the fly and I fished the Belle Grove Ponds this morning for three hours and left with one fish between us -- a crappie that hit a size 6 olive wooly bugger. We both fly fished exclusively.

Here's On the fly. His first outing of the year.

The fishing was poor but the nature watching was good:

I also saw two deer but they disappeared before I could photograph them.

It's amazing that you can see these creatures so close with a highway nearby and the sounds traffic in the background.

I remain impressed with the fish habitat at Belle Grove. I believe the water is still too cool for the bass to be active. I imagine fishing will improve greatly in May.

Good job Mark. You remain the local champ -- even catching one fish/trip is more productive than the others fishing with you.

        freshstripes,

I think that fish would have pulled me overboard.

        I'll stick with flies!

        Congrats on your catch.

What? You boys didn't get abused enough on Saturday? I admire you persistence.
