  • “Spec Tober”

You hear the term Rocktober...in Southern Maryland and on the Eastern Shore October is Spectober...spotted sea trout commonly known as Speckled trout or Specks are biting and there are some nice fish to be caught...and they can be caught with the same lures and same tackle you use for stripers...the bite can be different, sometimes you will feel a “nibble” much like a white perch hit...drop the rod back and most times it results in a hookup...kinda like a flounder bite...and don’t be surprised if the nibbler turns out to be a Gator Trout...don’t get me wrong, keeper stripers are here...been here all along..but so are Specks, big white perch and Redfish...November and December are our “Roctober”...

It's really nice to see the specs back after the cold winter killed most off a few years back. I've gotten a few this summer fishing the Honga and the Choptank areas, but none by kayak.
