  • Late summer smallies on the Susquehanna River

Thursday 9/28 I put in at 7:00 where Deer Creek empties into the Susquehanna. Only 1 small gate open at the dam with 3.500 cfs so the water was very low. I put in on the left side of the old RR bridge...be nice if the Department of Natural Resources would extend the steps to the low water level....make it much safer and easier to put in. Rocks can be pretty slippery! Paddled for 20 minutes to get well above Spencer Island. Fishing better on the Cecil County side of the river. Caught nothing but smallies....fished till 3:00pm... 26 fish mostly in the 14" to 18" range, biggest was probably close to 3 pounds. Was using 3"shads (baby bass color) on 1/4 jighead.

That sounds like tons of fun, right up my alley. Nice going.

Wow. Awesome. I am going to hit the suski below Harrisburg. I think it's called Middletown? Best waters around!
