  • CBBT Bull Red

    Bullaaa.jpg

Hooked into my first bull red (46.5") at the CBBT on Friday morning during the slack tide. It was an amazing experience getting up and close with those giant beasts! It smashed a live croaker I had out on a carolina rig.

It was funny, because earlier when I was trying to catch a croaker for live bait using a small hook and a piece of clam, I ended up catching a 24" red. I thought I had a huge croaker at first. Conditions were a little iffy with the current and the wind being amplified by the hurricane.

Incredible fish. They're on my bucket list, which seems to grow every year, even as I check things off of it too...

Awesome! Having tried several times and failed I can appreciate the difficulty of overcoming the conditions to find that fish

Very nice. I'd be very nervous as it drug you towards the piling.

Love those first runs they make- you wonder if they ever will stop...strong, robust fish...and they love rough water-back in the day, I used to fish for them and catch them off the Carolina Piers in Nor-easters in November when they make mass migrations...custom Hatteras Heavers, Abu 10000 (C) reels, 10/0 English hooks, half a mullet on fish finder off the "Tees" on the end of the Outer Bank piers...we used heavy surf casting tackle because we could not follow them, I imagine it would be so much more fun using lighter tackle to wear them down from a kayak...
