  • Lure suggestion and line

Hey all, I'm going to be trolling from my paddle kayak for stripers soon and I'm curious what style and brand of lures everyone uses for stripers as well as type of line. I personally use lucky craft pointers, rat l traps and shad raps

Most on this forum use a jighead (weight from 1/4oz-1oz) w/ paddle tail (length from 3"-6") I personally tie mine directly to braided line, but others swear by a piece of flourocarbon leader. Others have far more experience than I, so pay attention when they chime in!

I troll 2 or 3 lines and always use a fluorocarbon leader. If I am in shallow water I always have a spoon on one line, if the water is deeper I don't. I usually have a jig head and paddletail on one line. I also troll shad raps and similar types. When I see what is working the best I sometimes change all my lines to that but sometimes not.

I troll with my kayak as well. I use 20lb HiVis Yellow power pro, with a 1 1/2 foot 40lb mono line, followed by a tactical angler clip, 1/2 ounce or 1 ounce G-Eye Gig with a 6" BKD
