  • CBBT flounder 8/18

I had just about given up on flounder fishing at CBBT this year. I had a feeling Friday morning might be different by the way the current was starting to move out after high tide. I gave up on searching for sheepshead with old frozen green crab I had leftover from tog season last spring and tied on a 2 oz spro with dressed hook teaser and gulp shrimp. Sure enough, the flounder were there in my old favorite piling sets and couple other randoms. Pulled up 4 strong flounder right around 16 to just under 17". Plus 2 keepers...1 at just over 17" and a real nice flattie pushing nearly 21". I had to deal with approximately 2 dozen toads in the process. The heat and humidity was brutal with almost no wind (ended up setting a record high temp). The outgoing current was extremely strong as well, probably pushing 3 knots.

Is finding flounder at the CBBT bad this year?

It is definitely bad on va beach side cbbt lately in my experience. Years past it was a rare day that I could not even catch 1 flounder out there when I tried this time of year. Lately it has been a rare day to even catch a flounder at all, much less a keeper. Others I have talked to said same. Last summer was bad too. Not sure what happened.
