  • Somerset Co. Shallows - 7/3

I went looking for specks again yesterday evening in hopes of bringing home a fish or two for 4th of July dinner. Launched a little after 4 to low water and a soon to be flooding tide. Paddletails, x-rap, and tried some topwater. Chartreuse worked best this day and topwater didn't receive any love at all Fishing was pretty slow overall compare to my last few trips. I landed about a dozen striper averaging 14" with one respectable one at 24" and 3 small specks; a dink, a 14", and a 15.5". The grass beds are at full growth now and floating grass was a bit on an issue at times.

I don't have a fish finder, so I'm not sure of the exact water temp, but it was WARM. Too warm I think. That may have been my last trip over there for a little while.
