  • Mid-Severn report 6/2/17

Well, after yesterday's dinks I kept my expectations very low for this outing. I wanted to see if I could hook up to another good sized fish like the ones that spit the hooks on me before I could land them yesterday.

I got out at 5:30am and trolled the exact same trails, lures, and depths as yesterday. Immediately after leaving my launch, I got a hit on my deep bucktail. I land it and measures out to 18". Already, I have exceeded my expectations and now I am trolling with an ear to ear grin. I set my lines back out and trolled for another 30 minutes with nothing to show for it. I pulled both lines in and checked for debris. None found. I start paddling again to set my lines back out and as I was setting my second line out my first one goes off, the deep bucktail again. I placed my second rod back in it's rod holder and grab the first. This one had some fight to it. After a fun little fight I land it and measured out to 21 3/4". I was extatic and could go home a happy man!

After this fish I only had another 45 minutes to fish so I quickly gill strung this guy up and continued trolling. For the next 40 minutes I landed 3 more fish all ranging from 15"-19".

By 7:00am I had trolled 3 miles and caught 5 fish total with one being a keeper. After all the dinks yesterday and a keeper in the mix today, I'd say the river season is off to a great start!!

    Good luck to all!!

              Thanks! I almost didn't haha.

The lure that saw the most action and the keeper this morning was a 5" pearl zman paddletail hooked on a 1oz chartreuse bucktail jig.

                Steve,
You're the man! Thanks so much for taking me out last fall. I learned a lot, and my fishing is really improving. I was out today as well. I got:

                6 rockfish--all 18 inches or smaller.
20 perch. Kept the 8 biggest ones.

                My son-in law got:

                10+ non-keeper rocks.
                gobs and gobs of perch.

All in all, my fishing is really improving. I really hope that this is the year I get my first keeper rock for my yak.

                Best Regards,
                Stan

Not a problem at all, Stan! I'm happy that you and your son in-law had such a productive day.

Keep doing what you're doing and I can guarantee that you will be taking home a keeper in your near future.

                  Congrats!
