  • Snakehead Derby

Don't forget there is a Snakehead Derby this June 3rd in Montgomery County, MD on the Potomac river. It is being held/sponsored by the MD DNR. It is free to enter with prizes.

Tried to contact NWS today via their 1-800 number but they're only open 730A-4P, if this is kayak friendly (and not just shore fishing) i'm registering.

Thx for the heads up Steve

Hopefully make Snaggedline proud and collect some of those cash & prizes. Violettes Lock to Swains Lock is a good 6 mile stretch of shoreline.

It is open to kayaks. Also DNR announced today that the Frankinfish (Snakehead) is now found in the Frederick portion of the Potomac river.

Apparently entrance applications are up 400% from last year, current estimate is +/- 350 people.

Kayaks are not excluded, however with the amount of people assuming they are casting from shore, DNR said to use your judgement if you are comfortable with the waterway and will not be interfering with others.
