  • Crabs, Kayaks and Trotlines

Question; For those of you that run a trotline on your kayak, how far out do you have your prop stick?? Also how high up do you place it??

My bottom of my prop stick runs just above the waterline. If you have it in the water your kayak wants to turn in that direction from the drag.
My loop loop is far enough way to get the net between the boat and line plus a couple of inches.
You can see some setups on you tube.

I agree with what Plastic Boat says about the prop stick. I also moved my prop stick just above the water line and the "U" of the prop stick for me is about 16 to 20 inches from the side of my boat. For me the distance helps when it gets a little windy or the current is moving in a direction that makes it hard to run the trot line. The 16 inches to 20 inches gives me a little play room in correcting my drift so you do not run over your trot line while snagging a crab and putting him in the basket.

Great info from the guys above, i personally do not use snoods. Have had them tangle in my prop stick and turn the yak into the line. I tie mine on the main line, havent had any issues since.
