    Pedaling styles vary. I find that the straps keep my feet positioned properly and allow me to pull as well as push when I pedal. And possibly both of those benefits (at least for me) reduce fatigue.

    I've never seen any mirage drives with the straps still on. Don't forget to take a dremel or a hacksaw and take off the little nubs on the outside of the pedals otherwise your line will just wrap around those things all the time

    Everybody is different- both my Hobie Mirage Drives are stock except for turbo fins...I don't even think about the straps...they are there- I use them...

    If you like having straps, cut them in half, find a similar material with the right shape to make an extension, glue it on then shrink tube it to make it nice and clean. Sounds like more work than just taking them off though. If you try what I just suggested and it fails and you hate me for it, let me know and I'll give you mine. They're the first thing I take off the yak, followed by the bungee in the back.
