  • Hobie foot straps

I can't be the only one who can barely get shoes into the strap. This leaves the ball of my foot pushing on the pedal. I prefer having my foot in there a bit more. Not such a problem in the summer when I wear sandals.
Are there any fixes or bigger straps?

I think just about everyone just takes them off

I don't have that problem. My cold water and summer shoes fit into the straps.

However, I believe lots of folks remove the straps. I happen to like them. But I suspect some will suggest here that you do not need them.

Maybe I'll just try taking them off then.

flipped my straps to the underside of the pedals in case I suddenly want to try them. They've been there since 2011.

Finally took mines off this year due to surgery. They worked before with by BIG Sasquatch feet and sandals and neoprene boots. I can't believe how much more comfortable it is without them now. Wish I had done it sooner.

Seems like whenever I remove the straps entirely, I need them the next time I go out for some reason. Instead, I just unclip one side and loop it around on itself so its available if necessary.

I think I tried them once. I honestly don't see the benefit to using them.

Pedaling styles vary. I find that the straps keep my feet positioned properly and allow me to pull as well as push when I pedal. And possibly both of those benefits (at least for me) reduce fatigue.

I've never seen any mirage drives with the straps still on. Don't forget to take a dremel or a hacksaw and take off the little nubs on the outside of the pedals otherwise your line will just wrap around those things all the time

Everybody is different- both my Hobie Mirage Drives are stock except for turbo fins...I don't even think about the straps...they are there- I use them...

If you like having straps, cut them in half, find a similar material with the right shape to make an extension, glue it on then shrink tube it to make it nice and clean. Sounds like more work than just taking them off though. If you try what I just suggested and it fails and you hate me for it, let me know and I'll give you mine. They're the first thing I take off the yak, followed by the bungee in the back.

That's a good idea, I'll have to try that. Thanks!
