  • Rockfish ridiculousness!

    2017-04-28 10.20.47.jpg

What a day! I launched at Jonas about 7:30 and was going to go out around the point to Whitehall Bay but never made it that far. In the span of about 2 1/2 hours, I think I caught around 40, all about the size of the one in the photo - between 25"-32". They were hitting everything - 4" paddles, 6" paddles, skirted jigs, bucktails, Crystal Minnow - and 2 on a small popper. I probably could have put a cigar butt on a hook and gotten a few! No birds - very shallow water (less than 6'). Never had a day like this on the bay. Perhaps tomorrow will be even better! I also met 2 other kayak fisherman out there - Aaron and Joe - who were also crushing them!

    Tight lines everyone!

      Jim,

      That's good news indeed.

They sure took their good old time getting to a familiar haunt.

      Congratulations on your memorable day.

Great report. I have been checking each for those large fish to show up in the Severn and had not found the yet. Congratulations on finding them.

I was out there this morning and could not replicate your success. Caught three fish early, largest a little over 22", and then couldn't buy a bite for the next couple hours. Beautiful morning, though.

Anyone else heading out fishing in the morning? Thinking of going somewhere between Pasadena and edgewater

I just wanted to say thanks for the report, I was packing up to do some bass fishing in Germantown and figured I'd give Jonas another try. I launched at 830am with the high tide. Trolling from Jonas to the mouth of the river I finally hooked up just near the point...and it NEVER STOPPED! The first fish was a 17" rock and they only got larger. I ended the day with over 25 fish all averaging between 17-21". I had three fish measure out at 23" and the largest went 24". Eventually I got tired and paddled back a little after 1230. I met another kayaker out there, hope he got on some fish on the paddle back. It was a great day!

I'm planning on going out tomorrow. I had planned to go for catfish down south but I won't have enough time, so I will probably go out in the Annapolis area for a few hours at sunrise.
