  • Mattawoman 4/15-16

Fished the upper end of Mattawoman Saturday and Sunday. Got a late start both days launching on the high slack at around 10-11 and fishing the outgoing. Water temps started in the low 60's Saturday but were in the 70's Sunday. Lots of variety on Sat, landed yellow and white perch, bluegill, crappie, LM bass, a tiny rockfish, shad, carp, channel catfish and a snakehead. Also lost a 30 inch blue cat. Bass/snakehead were caught on spinnerbaits/chatterbaits/soft plastic swimbaits. Most everything else was caught on 2 inch curly tail grubs. Spatterdock is starting to grow and most fish were right in it beside the main channel with the best bite combing at the end of the outgoing. Went back for a bit of an encore sunday hoping to hit another snakehead and mostly stuck to a spinnerbait and swimbaits. A little slower but picked away at the bass and had another snakehead jump, throw the hook and flip me the fin. Another gentleman was fishing about the same time frame with topwater but I didn't hear how he did. With the water temps climbing it wont be long before the frog bite is on!

          Excellent results.

No dry pants either...that's encouraging too.

          Congratulations on two nice outings.

With water temps in the 60-70 range they can stay home! although they would have saved me from some sunburn...

Nice trip. I'm heading there tomorrow morning early. Targeting LMB and Snakeheads. I might keep some chicken breast on the bottom while I'm casting.

How'd you do? I got a late start and didn't get on the water until around 11 or so. Picked up one 18" LM on a white frog and that was the only bite I got all day. Not surprisingly, it hit while the frog was floating about 3ft from the yak while I was untangling a wind knot. Go figure.
