  • Perch Jigs

A breezy day (good for ventilation) and some inspiration by Dsmdave today sent me to my garage to make some perch jigs.

I often use old sinkers that I either find or are donated to me by my friends. This one here can make about 20 perch jigs:

Today I used two Do-It molds:

And poured twenty 1/16 and 1/8 oz. jigs:

This was the first time I have used the horsehead mold.

    Next came the paint:

Like Dsmdave, I used powder paint for the jig bodies. For the eyes on the horsehead jigs I used the acrylic hobby paint. I dab it on with a finishing nail head.

Then I had to attach the spinner blade to the horsehead jigs. That took more time than I would have liked. I also used stick-on eyes for the round jigs.

The results -- twenty perch jigs:

Now I just need to find the perch.

Yeah, it was windy today...great work Mark...I tilled my garden the second time today and planted a row of white onion sets...Yak67 and I fished Wednesday, so I was not looking for a fishing fix...think I will hit Mattawoman Monday, so might look for some snakeheads and Blue catfish...

          Outstanding Mark!
I was able to get the fly rod out late this afternoon and fish my local flow.
Had 3 fish strike my bullet head, but I was spacing out and slow to react each time.

Nice work mark. I have the same mold for the aspirin heads. What color is that green and red I'm loving those color on all of them.

Y'know those lures look good enough to bite!
And if they look good, they'll fish good.

Nice looking lures. The perch and stripers will love them.

Thanks all for the nice comments.

Bruce -- Yes, John and I are braving the hill at Beachwood in the morning. If anyone is in the area, please join us, if nothing else to help us get back to our vehicles!

DSMdave -- That green is Pro-Tec's Disco Green. It's one of my favorites. Also I like Pro-Tec's Disco Gold.

Tom -- It's amazing to me how fish know to strike when we are not alert or between strips on a fly rod. It happens to all of us.

Not a bite! Very frustrating. Either the perch were not moving yesterday or the jigs are more attractive to humans than fish.

However, my buddy, John Rentch hooked a 23 inch pickerel.

That was the only bite and only fish we raised yesterday.
