  • Late day blue car on Allen's fresh

A former student, his wife and young brother-in-law had been wanting to go fishing with me for awhile. They recently bought a square backed canoe and wanted to try Allen's Fresh for perch. Feeling the run was mostly over I talked them into trying for blue catfish in Allen's fresh instead. They had only caught perch, croaked and the occasional small striper to this point so the idea of catching a nice catfish appealled

Well, to make a long story short, we started catching big cats that were trailing a school of shad. The young lady caught one about 25lbs and was screaming like a banshee, unsure how to get it in the boat. It was hilarious and joyful.....and I even caught a couple eatable side myself so it will be a fish fry tomorrow night.
Her they are with a large headed brute.

Where are you launching out of? Ive looked at the area and the only place that looks accessible is westwood point but have no idea if that's private property or not. Theres also a little pull-off between the bridges on 234, but again, not sure of you can launch from there.

nhunter,.....we dumped them in at the bridge.....actually just above the bridge at end of the old roadway. Had to fight through a sea of Amish teenagers, but otherwise not a problem.

I've heard once the air temps reach 70°, they start their spring spawning run!

            Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the info! I've been stuck on land for most of my fishing life, so this is all new to me. Any info, advice, tips, etc are greatly appreciated!
