Yeah 8 miles one way is no bueno for a paddle yak. Pedal though is different. I covered over 20 miles in my paddle yak this weekend, with favorable winds, I think 15-20 over the course of a day would be exhausting but do able

I got caught in Chinoteague Bay 4 miles out from my launch when an unexpected 40 mph wind got up in a matter of minutes...obviously I survived the experience but it is not one I would ever wish to repeat...long distance jaunts across open water is possible in ideal conditions...on some really nice days you could fish the Chesapeake Bay in a 12 foot Jon boat...but it is rarely ideal conditions and even under ideal conditions- they can change quickly into less than ideal without any warning...8 miles out in the Bay from the nearest launch is beyond my comfort zone...No matter how you slice it it is a 2 1/2-3 hour trip one way...6 hours of pedaling under ideal conditions- add in tides, winds, waves, boat traffic...just not my cup of tea...

There's always a silver lining. If I had a hobie, and the sail kit, I may try it.

The best option is to convince my brother to let us take his runabout out to the target ship for some cobia fishing this summer. Shouldn't be too hard to convince him, that's the number 1 fish on his bucket list. It'll suck trailering the boat down to around PLO, 2 hours each way, but hopefully it'll be worth it.

Steve if you think this is bad try going to a bass fishing forum and ask about eating bass (which IMO taste 10X better than rockfish).

I usually keep them on a stringer over the side. I'm kind of looking for some DIY ideas to keep them out of the water.
Oh and for the record, I hunt to. Also do CDP's.
                      Steve,
Did you get a gobbler this past weekend. What do you hunt? Rifleman or Bow?

I did not go out for spring turkey this past weekend. Nor did I go out fishing. Was sick all weekend. As for rifle or bow I do all 3 to include ML. But for CDPs I mostly use a 7mm-08 or a 270WSM. Both zeroed and doped for 600m.

I'd eat my shoe with enough old bay.

Awesome! You have your own land? I can't seem to find any ranges where I can shoot at distance. I have a LAR 308, Mosin Nagant, a .25-06 coyote rifle, and a few other long guns I'd like to air out but most ranges I've found around Annapolis are only 100yds. Headed to the Eastern Shore to do some turkey hunting this weekend on a friends property.
