  • Pond Bass

I'm fortunate to have a nice community pond that holds a nice mix of freshwater fish. Went out with my rubber boots on (squishy would be the word of the day) and started casting a tube bait Carolina rigged.

Conditions were ideal but I was distracted by a pair of bald eagles dancing in the sky for about the first 5 minutes. Spent the next 30 minutes with no bites but had gotten to a sunny bank. I almost panicked when I felt that familiar tug but recovered in time to set the hook. First bass of the year caught.

Wasn't very big but it got my juices flowing again.

Congrats! Smaller the better, that way they can only get bigger as the year continues!

Extra jealous, you live near Aqualand, home of the Big Cats!

There is a nice population of crappie in the pond. If you search citation crappie on the forum I posted a picture of a 16" crappie I caught last spring from it. My son caught it in late summer and it was skinny and died upon release. We retrieved it and had a crappie sandwich.
