Haven't been out since the first day of 2017, but I intend to go fishing at some point in the next 2 weeks for sure. Got skunked going for rockfish, I need to learn how to properly LTJ, etc., all I'm good at is trolling...so I switched to bluecat fishing, and I had some success with that.

I'll start as soon as I get enough venison in freezer. Will be catfish.

Did pick up some blues on New Year's day. Weather hasn't cooperated since then.

If I can ever shake this sinus mess...catfish this time of year for me- this is my freezer fishing time of the year stocking my freezer with catfish filets...then in March or late February I start the trout fishing for a few trips for 25-30 rainbows for the freezer...I don't keep more than 75 pounds of fish vacuumed sealed in my freezer- even then I usually end up smoking a bunch after a year date to use for dips, etc. Wife only likes Salmon and catfish- Daughter and I like it all...

This year I have decided to lighten up my fishing- turn 71 in March so the heavier tackle is ok for trolling but not for casting- only going to go with light spinning tackle this year- putting away anything over a 3000 reel and 15# braid- I have several Stradic 2500/7' SE Teramar medium action 10# test braid outfits and a couple of Sustain/7' medium 12# braid outfits, so don't need to buy anything (probably need to sell 15 or 20 outfits to clean out my workshop)....once the weather cooperates, I am ready for just about anything in the fishing area...

Ron where do you fish for Rainbows? I would love to participate if it's a local venue (DMV). I have many found memories of catching Rainbows out of the cold mountain lakes and streams in California.

Just another day in the sun...

Maryland has a number of "put and take" trout stocking locations that I watch the website for when the season opens- I have fished several including ones in Charles County- if you fish them the same week of stocking you can usually limit out in an hour of so with mepps spinners on UL tackle-

Yes, apparently, having the best Cold Weather gear for kayaking doesn't actually make it not cold out... much to my surprise.

Very little fishing for me with the cold weather. I too got sick so I am taking it easy. I did manage to catch a few short yellow perch in January from shore with SurfDog and Grady Black, but that is about it.
