  • CBBT (Puppy Drums) Fri & Sat 18-19 Nov

    Friday

I fished the tail end of slack tide in the morning. Nothing caught during the incoming, but the bites came on during slack tide in the afternoon.

Did some jigging, but I mostly used shrimp looking for togs.

6 puppy drums (16 - 19+”; two were keepers @ 18 & 19”; the biggest, estimated well over 19”, came off the hook at yak side)
    6 black drums (11-13”)
    1 tog (13”)
Lots of toads and black sea bass

Talked to a passing yaker as he went back in; he caught two keeper togs near the 1st island. Another yaker didn’t catch any keepers.

It was another nice day to fish!

The wx forecast looked good for Sat, but there were higher winds and waves forecasted for the afternoon. I went fishing on Sat anyway.

    Saturday

The water at launch was pretty calm. Winds were light, but picked up to over 10 kts in the afternoon. The whole day was very nice with blue sky and air temp about 60. Water temp was 60-62 deg.

I mainly hung shrimp. Again, the bites came on during slack tide. Once the incoming started, the bites weren’t there. I quit fishing before the incoming ended, which was moving pretty well, so I didn’t fish the afternoon slack tide.

    2 puppy drums (16-17”)
    5 black drums (10-13”)
    Lots of toads and bsb

There was only one other yaker out there, and I didn’t get a chance to talk to him.

Yeah, like "Where's the togs, man?"

After having a Chipotle chicken bowl for dinner, I slept overnight in the minivan. Even though the outside temp was in the low 40's, I was warm and comfy in the sleeping bag.

Mini-Van. I think I need one, a used basic Odyssey or Sienna for just the kayak-fishing. I want a good sleep or a power nap nowadays.

            Mustafa,
What was the kayak lift thing called for you mini van?

            Joe

Thule Hullavator. Get the newer model because it can accommodate for the wider outback hull better. The old one works, but the new one is 2-4 inches wider.

Getting a minivan, Joe?!?!...lol....I was thinking about getting a truck because of the ease of loading/unloading (compared to car-topping on the minivan). But yeah, the minivan is nice for overnight sleeping; I've done it many times. Can you sleep comfortably in your Tundra?

I can sleep in my Tundra but laying on a driver seat. I want to sleep on Memory Foam mattress.

May as well get best comfort and rest, especially when these old bodies don't recover fast anymore.

                      Nice going on the puppies.

After several years of lifting the yak on a 4runner. Pickup is the way to go. No power naps needed. Just lots of coffee and the will to get home ASAP so I can shower and sleep on my bed.

Me? I use the tufnikvator. It's not very reliable. I have dropped the hull due to end-of-day tiredness.

BTW, had some fried panko PD fillets last night. Last time I ate it was two years ago. It was mmmm, good...better than tog. So, I prefer catchin' PDs when I go togging...lol.

                              LOL!

That Tufnikvator is one of a kind!

The PD was definitely an awesome surprise!
