  • Severn River - 9/16/16

Finally got a chance to do some fishing yesterday. I was so excited that I got the car loaded with everything...except my PFD. I realized this when I got to the launch. So that resulted in my taking the 30 minute trip back home to get it (in my pfd pocket, I keep my fishing licenses, & kayak registration.)

About an hour or so later we launched and began trolling. The plan was to troll first in search of rockfish, then bottom fish for perch.

Foursteps picked up a dink striper in short order using a typical jig head/paddle tail lure. A little while later I had a nice pull down while trolling a similar tandem lure. Ended up being a healthy 23" striper! We trolled a bit more with not much to write home about.

Bottom fishing was cool. We picked up some nice perch on bloodworm and crab. Also caught spot, and a baby speckled trout, which was a surprise. It was a good day on the water...hope to get out again soon!

It was. The original plan was to launch from SPSP, but the winds probably would have made for sprite conditions on the west side...so we opted for the river as a backup plan.

I really need to fish more...

Nice! I think you actually have a weakfish and not a spec though.?

          Nice job.

It's about time for the Severn to light up with legal stripers in areas close to our common launch sites.

Great report Carl! It's hard to tell when they are little but I think that's a silver perch which is in the same fam as the weak/specs.

Definitely a weakfish. Been catching both undersized specs and weakies near the mouth of the Severn lately. Nice report!

About time you got to fish Metro... Nice haul. I actually went bottom fishing on Saturday in southern MD and ended catching to my surprise a short weak fish too, and a bunch of small perch, spots and a few 14 inch croakers. They were a surprise too.
