If the kayak division can be catch photo release, the whole tournament should be that way.
It's such an insane idea to encourage people to catch and kill the biggest breeding stripers on the bay for money.
I suggest everyone boycott the tournament until that changes. Having stripers perpetuate in the bay is worth more than any award money.
I hate this tournament every year. It teaches the wrong message, certainly not one of conservation. I'll tell the same story every year since the fish can't speak for themselves.

Not a chance. Not until the fish come first.
And to show how much more I care for the fish than the money, I would have won the kayak division last year. I was catching fish well over 40” during the tournament.

I agree 100% with Alan ! I will never understand why the slaughter of our bays most sought after fish is allowed . Money hungry charter captains are killing limits everyday for money, while the weekend warriors are posing with their coolers, full of dead breeders . A catch and kill tournament with the pressure these fish are already receiving is insanity. By the way there are more sustainable fish to target for food with lower mercury levels, at least wait for the schoolies if You want a rockfish sandwich .

I gotta side with Alan. This is all about money and greed.

MSSA claims to be the "WORLDS LARGEST STRIPED BASS TOURNAMENT"?

Think of the influence and impact they could have in other coastal states if they somehow chose to set the example. You know, being the worlds largest in all....

                      Just sayin.

If you need to pick up an official kayak division ruler, you may do so at Alltackle in Annapolis

We will be broadcasting the daily "IDENTIFIERS" the following ways:

I feel the same way - there is no need to have a kill tournament anymore.

Another bad example of this, and one that has influence by reaching a lot of people through their publications and could set a good example, is On the Water magazine's Striper Cup that runs from May - September. Why have both kill and catch and release divisions? Just make it all catch and release.
