  • Catfish Tournament Beginning of April

    https://www.facebook.com/events/1059430014098741/

Seems like they're still playing around with the date. But sounds like a blast, apparently last year they had a decent turn out. Supposed to be a kayak division this year. Anyone interested in going?

I should be able to make it. I had so much fun this summer playing around with the big cats around DC this year.

I would be interested, never been in a fishing tournament of any kind before but I've wanted to try a couple this year and this would be as good a place to start as any.
New to the game but not a rookie!

I will be there again this year. Last year there was boat and kayak/shore divisions. Very good fish tacos cooked up afterwards. Good time.

I can't find any info on the Entrance Fee.

I have never fished a tournament. How does it work?

Some of the guys that have fished it before can probably answer this better than I can. But I'm sort of in the same boat as you. I went to their website and saw that it was indeed listed, but I couldn't find a place to buy tickets so I'm assuming tickets are to be bought the day of? I will ask the head honcho on facebook today what the entrance fee is for kayaks, and when to pay.

I don't think signup is available yet until the rules are released. It sounds like they maybe changing a bit from last year, so we'll have to stay tuned.

Yea I just talked to the guy running it. Still making a few final changes, should be released in the next few days.

Think they are attempting work out the Catch and Release issue. To kill a big blue cat so you can win seems like the wrong approach.
Smaller ones I have no issue with. This is a very sustainable fishery if the breeders are released.

I'm glad someone is finally thinking about a C+R tourney for these fish! Hate to see so much close-minded thinking about blues, flatheads and snakeheads and cringe when I see the piles of dead fish after the tournies down that way.

I don't either, but there's no real pretty way to deal with the blue cat issue. Research ha shown they're doing the damage the DNR says they're doing. I wish the big ones were good eating, that'd solve the problem.

Blues and flatheads are considered invasive and the DNR request you kill them all in MD anyways no? not that I advocate just killing a fish to kill it but if they see a good reason for it Im sure there are ways to make use of it maybe as cut bait or something
