2016 Goals

i only have one goal for next year....thats to have as much fun as i did my first year on the bay which was this year by the way. such great times and memories with a few slower lower SMOGS!!!! i feel very blessed to have the luck i have had my first year. to duplicate would be amazing

Get out more than the abysmal 3 times I did in 2015.

In Random order:

Crab from my kayak
Get my kids out- they are super excited(might need a few more kayaks)
Purchase a Jigging Rod
Cast more surface plugs
Break thru the 30" barrier in a kayak
Attend a Jamboree and/or Tournament
Try to work with out day dreaming about fishing
Stick to the baits I know, don't get caught up in the latest things(spend less money)

I always set at least these two goals:

1. Get a 50 incher
2. Never get skunked

3. I'd like to add a 3rd goal for this year and that'll be to do some more seminars, talks, etc. I get to meet a lot of great folks that way and hear all about what they're learning and doing.

I also enjoy pushing the envelope and trying new techniques. Last year I did a video, "Jig Trolling" to address fishing deep in winter, and later adapted it to fishing for things like perch. I don't like doing new things for the sake of it, but rather because it's productive. Our kayak is a different tool available to us so we can use it in ways people have not before. Discovering this stuff is pretty fun.

I fished a ton last year, nearly every weekend, so fishing less is probably a better goal with a newborn here :-)
And the other goal I had last year was to fish new waters, or different areas of the same waters to show that patterns can be applied most places through the bay. This was a great goal, and with the amount of fishing I did, I really expanded my "home waters" That's really important because some areas are way better to fish in certain conditions than others, think tide, wind, wind direction, runoff and water temps.

So there's this years and some of last years that may be fun for people to try.

I guess in general this year will be to continue observing what the fish are doing and under what conditions different strike triggers work best.

With a newborn due soon, I think my first fishing related goal would be to just make sure I reserve some time to still get out every now and then, hopefully .

After that:
- Get a BIG cobia on the kayak
- Get in on some Eastern Shore snakehead action
- A bull red on a lure would be gravy
- And lastly, catch LESS sharks and stingrays!

2. Do more overnights on ESVA islands.
3. Do a few guided trips through Hobie First Cast to spread the addictiveness of this style of fishing.

I don't know if you can avoid number 1. They do subside a little after dark, but mostly I wear a buff and long sleeved/pants. Also avoid islands that are heavy wooded. As far as the poison ivy goes I haven't had any trouble with it. I'm always on the look out for it because I get it really easily.

2. Win KBF National Championship in Kentucky ($25k, can always dream right)
3. Win MSSA Striper Kayak tournament
4. Finish in the Top 5 Angler of the Year for MAKBF agains some the top guys around the region.
5. Fish CCA Red/Trout and do as many overnight island trout trips as possible.

In all seriousness, I'd like to fish more with guys on here that I've fished with only a couple times or maybe only pm'd and fish more with guys I've become good friends with through this board, as well. I made a ton of solo trips this year of 2-3 hours at a time, maybe better off getting in a little less trips but for longer periods of time.
It would also be awesome to take my son on his first fishing trip (turning 2 this year! ), even if it is just to the local pond...
And, I didn't get my sheepshead last year, so hopefully we can check that one off this year.

I think its time you three let someone else win. If you win again, I am pretty sure you're gonna need to start claiming that on your taxes.

Now that I don't have a wife expecting a baby girl any day like last year I'm coming for you guys. It likely won't make a bit of difference but I just thought you should know. Haha.
