  • Florida redfish and trout in the new Hobie i11s

Quick trip to Sarasota FL for work late last week and put the new Hobie i11s in the check-in luggage. Only had time for Saturday and a half day Sunday to get on the water and the wind forecast was ominous. Thankfully the winds ultimately weren't as bad as expected and I found some wind-sheltered spots via Google maps. Was rewarded with a nice low tide tailing red as well as a beauty of a trout. Caught countless smaller trout and a number of feisty ladyfish. The i11s may just be the new favorite yak.

Hobie needs to work on version 2.0 to get it under 50lb, but of you fly Southwest (and BWI to Tampa via Southwest is a direct flight) then you can offload the seat, paddle, and pump to a second check-in bag.

Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum (but an active member of the kayak board over at SOL). I found it for this thread as I was searching for information on the i11s. Still not too much out there from actual users. I am seriously considering adding this to my fleet. Wondering how it is to stand and fish out of, how it handles rough water and it's speed compared to an Outback?

Looking forward to checking things out here!

I'll be fishing for winter reds in the i11s this weekend (Friday to Monday) in Cape Romain, South Carolina. Coincidentally my fishing partner will be in an Outback so we'll be sure to report back with our findings here.

On my Florida trip with the i11s back in December I battled 20mph+ winds with relative ease. I didn't attempt standing until I wash relatively shielded by the wind gusts behind some mangroves. I found it to be relatively easy to stand on but wouldn't say it was "rock solid" like a Hobie PA or Slayer Propel (I've fished out of both of those and feel they're some of the most easy-standing boats around).

Thanks for the quick reply! I'll be anxious to hear any comparisons you can make to the Outback. I have a 2013 Outback now, I love it. I have a condo I can stay at near the beach in NJ, but the only parking is in a garage and no way I can fit my SUV in there with the Outback on top. The i11s could be the perfect solution for me and could served double duty as an extra Kayak from my wife or daughter.
