  • First keeper from a yak, Ft. Armistead this morning

I've pretty much been a lurker since picking up a yak this spring as most of my fishing has been at the beach this summer. I launched out of Armistead this morning at around 7; I was hoping to get a few hours in on the water before the wind really kicked up. I got into a few perch early; enough action to make it worth the dealing with the breeze. I ventured out to Carroll to seek a little shelter from the wind after about 2 hours(wind started to blow earlier than I thought it would). I was working close to the fort so I could take a break from paddling when I got bit. I honestly thought at first I had gotten snagged I was sitting so shallow. Anyway ended up with my first keeper from a yak 24" clean fish. Caught in maybe 10 ft of water(I don't have FF) on a 4 inch paddle tail and white jig head. I was stoked and the wind and boat traffic was picking up so I decided to call it a good morning. I got quite the odd looks from the neighborhood carrying the rods and fish back to the house through Fed Hill.

Nice job on the keeper. Federal Hill is a place up north in RI also. I was scratching my head for a second when I read your report. Did not realize they had one in Baltimore before today...learn something new everyday.

Congrats on the keeper! Now that the ice is broken, I am sure it will be the first of many.

It's good to keep you neighbors guessing....

Congrats on the first keeper! I'm in Fed Hill too and get plenty of funny looks driving around with the kayak loaded or wheeling it back in with fish and rods on it! Do you go to the CCA meetings at Little Havana?

I had no idea there were meetings at Havana. I'd definitely be in to stop by, i'm right up the street on Clement. You don't by any chance drive the black SUV with the large UA and Costa stickers? At any rate we'll have to get together some time. I spend more time fishing down on the shore in the summer, but i'm definitely hooked on the kayak now. Much more fun than trolling for 12 hours.
