  • Chapel Point advice

I'll be down in the La Plata area this afternoon. I was thinking about fishing/crabbing Chapel Point State Park, but I am not sure what to target. I know there's catfish there, but would rather target stripers.

Would I be better off putting in near the Rt 301 bridge, or trying new water on the Port Tobacco river? If it's windy, I'd like to stay sheltered, so that means Chapel Point. Any advice would be appreciated.

Problem with Port Tobacco is the lack of deep channels. This time of year the stripers start grouping. They follow deeper channels looking for baitfish clumped near shoals and shallows in the morning hours.

On the Wicomico you should be as protected as you would be on Port Tobacco. The difference is in the contours.

Check out NOAA Chart 12286. From the launches at Bushwood Wharf & Chaptico Wharf you have easy access to shoals, shallows and deeper channels.
