  • Tangier Sound top water

Hi Folks, the topwater bite continues in the Tangier Sound. I was in the Tangier Sound area last week on a family vacation, and was able to slip out fishing on four different days for a couple hours each day. I fished points and mouths of creeks/guts in 2-4' of water with moderate grass beds. I got stripers each trip, day 1: 18"; day 2: 18" 19", day 3: 21", and a couple misses; day 4: (5) 20", (5) more on but lost, and (5) misses; day 5: zero. The best part was all fish were caught on the surface on a 4" smackit popper. Day 4 was wild, and the best day striper fishing I've ever had. The crazy thing was day 5 was the same conditions--go figure, that's why they call it fishing. I did try some 4" gulp twister tails (both chartreause and also white), but no interest in them, tried rattletraps, no interest, the only interest was top water, which was fine with me!
