Name your boat?

Anybody name their kayak and wish to share? I'm thinking of dedicating mine to my old best friend, our English bulldog Reuben who died a few months ago and is missed dearly. The "Reuben J"

It would be pretty funny to see a yak that has a big enough stern with a name decaled across it. It would have to be something ironic.

I'm sorry for your loss. I've been there with my dogs and it's never easy when we lose them.

Did you know that the USS Reuben James was the first US Navy casualty of a German U-boat in WWII? Not quite the name you have chosen for your kayak but close. Of course, U-boats are no longer a threat. But we do have to worry about the return of Mary Lee.

I made the attached with a Brother label maker for the stern of my Jackson. It's waterproof. I may have to rechristen her however for a name with better vibes. I got skunked the last time I took her out but I did stay right-side up:

At this site, you can order custom designed lettering as a single decal. They have reflective or vinyl in many fonts as small as 1". Thought about getting some of the black reflective lettering for my kayak, "Sisty June":

I also am familiar with naming tradition....my old tandem that was my first fishing yak...."Gift Horse" . Named because while not perfect it was a gift when I needed one.....and boy did I get a lot of fishing done in that boat. Name reminded me to be grateful.

new boat is the "Surprise" after Fishtank (fellow snaggedliner) surprised me with an offer to buy his boat that i coveted WAY below value.....always surprised and grateful for snaggedline buddies!!

The one naming tradition I am familiar with, came from one of our more famous brothen down in the Tidewater area. The way it works is the name is some what connected to the first fish that is caught on her. In his case, the new Ultra became "49'er" after the 49" bull he caught with her. Following that tradition, i decided to name my new 2015 Revo 13. I was out throwing a plug full of treble hooks to a point that holds schoolies. Blow up happened, and a weird heavy retreive began. It ended up being two schoolies together! One on each set of trebles...guess those two guys were fighting at the dinner table lol. Thus, the Revo's name is "Dos Rockies" in honor of the two stripers and my favorite beer!

I thought the bad luck about boat names was in re-naming a boat - Not necessarily not having a boat name.
I've also been told that for this reason, naming a boat can affect resale value, since a prospective buyer could both dislike the current boat name, and be superstitious about changing it. Mind you, this was relayed to me from someone who passionately adheres to the "no bananas" rule, and will get genuinely angry if you sneak bananas on to his boat.

The USCGC Eagle, the U.S. Coast Guard’s famous tall ship, began life as the “SSS Horst Wessel” a German training ship. The renaming was certainly unlucky for Germany because it lost the Horst Wessel to the U.S. as war reparations. But Eagle is definitely a better name given its present use!
