  • Stars and Stripers - In honor of America's Heroes (Memorial Day, 2015)

I put additional efforts to fishing videos for Memorial Day and Veterans Day in the past. This is the 2015 Memorial Day video to honor our heroes.

On Memorial Day, I trolled for 7 hours to land one striper for the video. I started trolling at 07:30 AM off Breezy Point, MD. Because I brought a wrong FF (Garmin and Lowrance Tranducer), I couldn't locate the areas with certain depths. Though I know this area very well.
I hooked 3 stripers at 32-34", 28-30", and 24-25" within an hour. All I needed was one striper for the video. But somehow I couldn't land them. After that I trolled 6 hours hard to land one at 22". I was very tired, but happy to complete the fishing.

On the following day, I went to Iwo Jima Memorial to take some videos.

Here is my memorial day fishing log:

      Sorry for the late response.

It is called parachute jig. Google "parachute jig striped bass". You will see images of parachute jig + shad (6-12").

My setting on the video is like this:

from main line + a coast lock snap swivels + 3-way swivel
upper lure: a 1 OZ home made parachute + 9" shad, a 7'-9' leader connected to the 3-way swivel by using coast-lock snap swivel.
lower lure: a 4 OZ parachute + 9" shad, a 4'-5' leader connected to the 3-way swivel by using a coast lock snap swivel.

There can be many variations. The important rules are:
      • leader for the upper lure is longer than that of the lower lure.
      • Lower lure must be heavier than the upper lure by at least 2 OZ

There are many variations of tandem lure rigs. At this point I can find only one example with an umbrella rig as the lower lure.
At 00:54 on the following video, you will see the different version of the tandem rig:
