  • Severn Striper

Nearly thought I was going to be skunked today, but I decided to trudge on and keep fishing a familiar territory and pattern that I stumbled upon in the Fall. Water temperature high was about 55.4F according to my fish finder and I was fishing in waters ranging from 2 feet to 15 feet, but the target range was approximately 3-7 feet. I trolled with two rods. One contained a 3/4oz jig head with a something "bone" scented paddle tail I was testing out. The other was my trusty umbrella rig with black paddle tails on the non-hook sections and a "violet moon" on the actual hook, which was a big hit for me in the Fall. The striper took on the umbrella rig in about 7 feet of water around 14:30 with a high tide predicted near 15:00 and was released safely after a photo. Great to be on the board - first time fishing this year and will hopefully be back to do some more in July (though it may be slower). Thought I'd mention I reread Alan's book and read for the first time Shawn Kimbro's second book and the knowledge I've been gaining from those two sources, combined with this forum has really enhanced my ability to catch fish out here. Thank you for all of the advice! G0012515.jpg0415151601.jpg

-Thanks! I didn't measure it. I was wishing I had a bump board out there. The fish was not far off the width of the kayak (30"), I'd put it in the 26-28" range. PB for me!
