Shopping around for a new kayak cart

So I've managed to mangle my scupper hole kayak cart by bend the legs all out of shape. It might be able to be bended back and even as it is, its still pretty useable. However, I'm not sure that I'm that pleased with the scupper hole design. What other types of carts have folks used on here? I was thinking of maybe something that didn't have hard tires also. Launching at Beverly Triton last year was a bit of a pain dragging my kayak through the sand.

What carts are easy to use that don't use scupper holes? And what carts have the inflatable wheels that are better for sand? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

If you are "Handy" at DYI stuff there are a lot of videos on You Tube for constructing carts that would fir your needs for around $40 or so that have balloon tires. The one I use was from a Canoe/Kayak cart video. It allows you to haul either on on the same cart and is easy to assemble.

Those wheeleez do look nice, but they are so pricey. A good cart may be worth it though. The straps seem like they might be a pain to deal with, but probably something I would get used to.

I have the c-tug cart (plenty to be found on google) and am very pleased with it. I went through three cheaper carts, should have just paid the money originially to get a good one. The bonus is it completely breaks down and fits into my internal kayak hatch.

Does anybody use the ctug with an outback? It does not look like it will work very well. I need a new cart and still don't like the idea of sticking a cart in the scupper holes.

I'm sure it would be fine. My Ride 115 is 33" wide and it works well. The resting pads on the cart basically self adjust. A very well designed cart although you must pay very close attention on how to tighten the straps, it is counterintuitive but works great once you figure it out.

Thanks. It seems like the design should work on the outback, but I saw a few complaints of it slipping off. The cheap cart I already have worked pretty well on my ride 135, but it just won't work on the outback...the hull shapes are rather different. I just went ahead and ordered a ctug this morning. Hope it works out.

Thanks for the links, I can see from the videos that it should work pretty well on the outback. I think the folks complaining about it slipping off the outback were just not strapping it properly. Looks like it should fit right into the front hatch on my outback also. Pretty excited to get out and try it this weekend.

That is a nice one. I was going to build one out similar to that...well my idea was to use aluminum tube to build one more like the hobie universal cart but with balloon tires. But the wheeleez are about as much as the ctug. I just opened my ctug package and I think it is going to work out pretty nice but doubt it will cross sand nearly as well as wheeleez. I don't find it very hard to drag yak across sand with no cart. I really would like some super balloon tire wheeleez, but I don't think it is happening anytime soon.

Alright, I took the plunge on a C tug...won't be here for at least a week though. I'll be glad to be done with the scupper holes. I was impressed with the you tube videos above. I got one that has sand hopper wheels. I hope they work out at Beverley triton beach better than my hard wheel scupper hole cart did. It wasn't all that far of a haul, but it was a pain.
