  • Mattawoman 4/5

Fished out of Slavins from 1400-1800 on the incoming. Less than 6inches of visibility, surface water temp at 55. Fished the barge and surrounding areas with a small jig for crappie and a chatter bait for bass. Landed 1 nice crappie at the barge to avoid the skunk. Carp were starting to jump/spawn and the spatterdock is just starting to come up. I think with some better water quality the bite would have been better.

Good job on not getting skunked! The water temps are decent, just need the weather pattern not to go up and down like a roller coaster for a few days to settle them in to a pattern. The lake I was in saturday had temps at 47.

I've been meaning to get out there. Thanks for the report.

I had some luck last year around this time, negotiating a chatterbait deep into the emerging spatterdock, when they wouldn't bite anywhere else. I might have been skunked if I hadn't realized that's where the LMB were hanging out that day.
