I haven't, but always wanted to. You need a longer kayak, say 14', to deal with the rough seas and larger fish. I'm super disappointed I can't make it.

What kind of tackle, rods, reels, etc. would be needed for something like this? I've never fished for tuna.

A few members hit the big blue last season down at Hatteras. It would be interesting to get their opinion on a trip like this.
I don't really have any deep sea gear. Do they rent rigged rods?

I was kinda wondering this myself... Hoping someone who has done a trip like this would chime in. I have a Saragosa 10000 and an SL50SH that both hold 450+ yds of 50 lb powerpro and can put out 20+ lbs of drag. I feel like with the added drag of the kayak that would be enough to stop most smaller tunas

I'd say 50-80 lb gear minimum, one rod should be all you need.

I just talked to chris @ DPS he said the trip includes the mothership vessel and a guide that will be out on a kayak with us. He also said the capt will provide tuna setups at no extra cost but if you lose it, well, you probably dont wanna lose it.

Not clear.... Do we need to paddle our kayaks 3 hours out or load up the mothership with our kayaks?
