I like the track systems but is a ram mount better?

I prefer Scotty brand rodholders and mounts. It is a personal preference. If you have gear tracks in the right locations, you can use Scotty or other brand bases without drilling any holes. On my kayaks, I have two Scotty bases bolted through the hull behind the seat, and two Scotty #438 gear track head bases on the gear tracks in front of my seats.

16" gear tracks fit quite well in the FS12T. If you get the middle-duty ones (GT90?) that have a single row of screw holes, you can align them to fit between the molded holes for the crappy stock rod holder that comes with the yak. I backed every other screw with a fender washer and the track holds extremely well.

Regardless of which rod holder you choose, I would definitely recommend trashing the stock rod holder. The quality is absolutely horrible. I assume the BPS branded rod holders that are sold separately are the same thing. Even though they look very similar to a Scotty, they are not compatible.

+3 on the gear tracks with Scott Mounts rod holders. All you need is one year with the ram mounts and you will be switching.

I have Scotty mounts with the rod holders in hindsight I wish I would have used 4" tracs with the RAM Mounts. Lesson learned..

Would they hold a 18 or 20 oz umbrella or tandem plus fish? Or do u use the through hull in back to troll?

Yeah bass pro one is gone. But I can't find any other track but this, in various lengths. Is this the middle duty ones u referenced?

for gear tracs i would use the yak attack brand as they are made with aluminum for a much sturdier setup. you can also purchase backing plates if you think you need the extra security
