I was wondering where it said Bay Bridge... now I know the BB is called William P. Lane, Jr. Memorial Bridge.

Don't know if this means the Severn is ok to yak, anyone know?

The Coast Guard has sucked ever since they were absorbed into Homeland Security.
                  This action is over-the-top.

What about the watermen? It seems every year the powers-that-be do something to make life more difficult for the little guy.

This take Baltimore harbor out of play too. I understand the safety reason for doing this, but do not understand why the restriction extends until April 15 -- ice that poses a threat to navigation could be fully gone in 1-2 weeks if we get warmer weather and rain.

Theoretically, even though the waters south of the Bay Bridge are open, moving from the launch at Sandy Pt (immediately north of the bridge) to south of the bridge is a violation.

What are you talking about ........ There's tons of ice out there and it's dangerous. Many places are still iced in ......... Cape Cod even has icebergs on the beaches .......... It's about keeping people safe ......... Besides I don't think there is much open except probably YP and there are very few if any oysters in the upper bay anyway ...... In addition, There have been a lot of reports of the ice ruining the nets so they probably won't be many out anyway.

Problem with this weather is everyone has Spring Fever and forgetting the water probably isnt even above 35 or so. Its really dangerous for small craft right now, ice or no ice.

                          Exactly.

This move is primarily focused on the crazy recreational boater that has more dollars than sense. Commercial watermen should be exempt. These guys have a tough enough time making a living already. This hitch pretty much blows the spring C&R season for the northern part of the Bay.

April 15th is probably just a soft date. It's 4 1/2 weeks roughly. We all know the weather has been really unpredictable, but most likely it'll be lifted before then.

Sounds like an easy way to implement a Spring run moratorium under the guise of safety. Maybe this will have a good effect of the fishery.
