I agree. I think the flash helps a lot. I will tie some flies with the colors you suggest.
I've caught perch with blue crystal buggers and chartreuse over white Clousers with crystal flash in their center lines. Neither fly looks like anything that lives and swims.
The day I mentioned above I was using a natural colored Clouser in gray over white. It looked like a real minnow in the water.
It impressed me but not the perch. I should have stuck a gum wrapper on the hook!
