  • "Open" water?

Anyone see any water the last few days? I'm looking to go out tomorrow, Saturday 2/28- but so far I haven't seen anything that isn't locked up solid in ice.

I did see a small area by harbor hospital, but it didn't look like the launch is clear...

Anyone drive over the key bridge, the Woodrow Wilson, or see what the susquehanna by havre de grace looks like ?

Thanks in advance for any info...

Otherwise I might have to buy an ice auger and head for deep creek

Harbor Hospital can be a tricky area to launch from during late winter. Several years ago I tried to launch there in late February and the whole area near the ramp was totally blocked with huge stacks of dumped snow 6'-8' feet high. There must have been a 100+ stacks.

I was able to drag my canoe to the water's edge but it wasn't easy.

Dunno if they still dump snow there though and probably occurs mainly during winters of multiple heavy snows.

I think there was some under the naval academy bridge but I'm not sure about Jonas.

The susky south of the 95 bridge was frozen solid as of around noon today but north of the bridge I could see a ton of open water. Lapidum might be doable.

I heard there was open water near Jonas Green today and apparently and 3' stripe-less mystery fish hanging around the surface.

I would really like to know what that fish was. Saw a post on FB earlier and glad to see I might be able to fish on my birthday weekend.

The only open water I've seen around here recently was in my bathtub.

Found some water to fish, though I opted for dock fishing. Perryville side of the susquehanna is open between the rt. 40 bridge and the train bridge. Could have launched here (didn't realize there is a public ramp just up from the 40 bridge on this side) anyway, the perch bite was pretty good. Several doubles, although most were just shy of legal size. Should be open by next weekend.
It was mighty cold out there. My line kept freezing to the spool and the bail!

i spent sunday driving dorchester county looking for open water . the chic was open in the middle but the edges were frozen 10 feet out . i did get some cast from bridge with no luck . the shad are thick and making a cast without snagging one was difficult . i did find open water at the end of elliots island rd on the big water . as i launched my kayak there were some waterman working on their boats and the look thay gave me was priceless . i caught 2 little yellow perch but got no relief from this severe case of cabin fever i have been suffering with for weeks . im off wed and going to try again somewhere .
