12/13/14 placed 2nd in kayak bass tournament!

Placed 2nd in the Delaware Paddle sports tournament this weekend. This was only my second tournament. I had a game plan to work the deepest point possible, as slow as possible. Only a few people actually caught Bass. Water temps were below 40 degrees.

I've also started using my VIO POV to start making videos, and I am having fun doing that.

I used a drop shot rigged with a fluke, and modified a suspending jerk bait with some lead tape. This was a good rig, my sinking jerk bait always came back with brush of types, but the modified dropped to good depths but didn't pick anything up.

I wanted to try a Carolina rig, but this brought back too much junk.

I might have caught more fish if I had moved around, but I stuck with my plan.

The pickerel responded well to the drop shot and the hook ups were incredibly easy. This was my first time to use this rig, but it has earned it's place in my repertoire.

good technique for sure, i drop shot ALOT and it always brings me in a fish when i need it

i use alot of Robo worms but the fluke sounds like a great idea ill have to try it out

Nice job with the video too. That place looked like it had tons of shallow structure for spring/summer fishing. How deep did it get?

congrats on your finish! tough conditions when the water dips below 45 degrees let alone 40 degrees, well done!

p.s. - I keep my fish grips on a 3 foot paracord tether attached to the kayak, I will drop the fish back into the water and let them swim while I get the camera and hawg trough ready, seems to keep them calmer on the board

For the mount I used a thick PVC pipe bout 1" I think. I bolted a 1" ram mount ball, then used a 10" ram extension bar, to a ram clamp mount.

That'll be another video good winter video.

Thanks! Haha....The Native slayer propel is very sturdy. Even with my grip anchor setup, I was jolted a few times by the wind.....but the yak is very sturdy.

Either way I like how you phrased that.

I seriously just took my track mount retractable cord off the day before....SMH.....most other people were skunked....they all fished way to fast IMHO.

The deepest spot I found was about 8 ft.

Greg Blanchard has a few videos on YouTube as well as shawndabo. It really is a pitching and skipping wet dream. Deepest part appears to be a channel directly in the middle.

I caught both bass in the same spot just at the beginning and end of the tournament.

Before I fished there this time I picked two spots where the water was deepest by using this map

The launch is indicated at the bottom by "L"

During the middle of the tournament I paddled to my second point, but the water only got colder 38 degrees, I fished it very briefly, then returned to the 39 degree water. From my per fish, I knew the farthest end from the launch was to shallow to hold anything of note, I focused my efforts solely on the deepest spot nearest the launch.

Ive done this on your suggestion....really works well for measuring & pictures

i dropped shot from shore before

i use it as a search bait all the time..

toss it out and drag back it slow and hop it along
