  • Little Seneca Lake today

They are definitely feeding up for fall but I can not understand why they were on breakline 25 feet down. 3/8th ounce black&blue jig with a beaver trailer.

Nice catches Dave! How long does it take for a 3/8 oz jig to sink down?

They have definitely been eating well lately.

I don't think I have ever targeted LMB that deep before.

I was using a fairly bulky trailer and was counting to about 15-17 before it landed. No hits on the drop, everything was mid-retrieve.

Nice report and way to think outside of the box by going deep. Those are nice fat fish.

Thanks! I actually encountered this same pattern late last fall, so I decided to document the pattern for my fishing log for future reference. I expected the bass to be at number 1 in the diagram (chasing bait in and around the weedbeds), when I could not get anything going there but dinks I next tried the deep edge of the weed line (number 2) but no luck there. When I was moving from spot to spot I was seeing "marks" on my fish finder on those deeper breaks (number 3) 25 feet down.

I never would have guessed the fish were that deep in the fall. Thank you for the insight!

way to go! good time catching quality fish on jigs deep. nice use of sonar. your Bassinator TM score was therefore *raised* from 7.2 (strong) to 7.6 (borderline exceptional).

.... I may have to get back out there again this weekend and see if I can raise my Bassinator score

They were on a break line 25 feet down because they were trying, to no avail, to hide from Turtle the Bass Slayer.

During the spring and summer I never look for bass with my fish finder. I just look for conditions that ought to hold bass. Come later fall and winter however I find more and more that I depend on my electronic eyes to find concentrations of fish.
