  • Kiptopeke next weekend (13-14th)?

Thinking of heading down to search for some reds next weekend. I'll be camping at KSP. I've been there before and have some likely spots to try picked out. I'm a little wary of going entirely solo in such big water. If your skill set is on par with kipto and you'd like to join send me a message.

Good luck to all who participate. I tend to avoid crowds when fishing but admire the cause. Reports at KSP have shown big reds, puppy drum, sheepshead and flounder. Probably won't find any of those at kent island.

        John,

        Good luck to you also.

I was there in late August and while I didn't have much success catching the species you mentioned, the area is an interesting change of environment from my local waters here near the Severn and Bay Bridge. I especially enjoyed the close-up view of the concrete ships.

Looking forward to your report I am planning on doing something similar in October for my first trip down there. Any tips/advice you can provide afterwards will be greatly appreciated.

Jhoss, work you way through the VABI, you really need to watch the tides. Been in this area by skiff before. Never by Yak. You may want to look into the Eastern side of Rt 13 for some launch areas.

Had a nice time at kipto on Saturday. The water was nice and calm, although terribly cloudy from the recent storms. I fished a good 12 hours, paddling all the way around fisherman's island in search of big reds. Couldn't find any- gave it my all though. Only 2 fish for the day. One nice puppy drum, and one giant toadfish. Puppy drum was right at 26-the upper limit of the VA slot. Need to get a measure board, I thought he was 24 when i measured him in the net.

I'm expecting it'll be pretty good once the water clears out

My luck was in the creek on the backside of fisherman's island, but I also saw some along the edge of the ditch and on the flats opposite. I caught mine on cut mullet, but the tournament looks like artificials only. The stomach contents of the one I caught had mostly fiddler crabs and one large finger mullet. See previous posts on this entry. No sight of specs anywhere
