  • Rocky Gorge. New Water Covered. Bridge to Bridge

Fished Browns Bridge to the Route 29 Bridge today and back.
    Long paddle.
Took 3+ hours to get to the Route 29 Bridge.
Took 2.25 hours to get back to Browns Bridge.
Saw 6 bald eagles, or else fewer, or else saw the same one 6 times.
Saw a snake swimming across the reservoir.
    Found a waterfall.
Had the 800 acre reservoir all to myself.
Lost 4 bass before touching them.
Caught a white perch and a bass.
    Paddled a bunch.
Actually caught a bass on a chatter bait, but it came off as I was about to lip it.
Had something big strike hard on my 3rd cast. It was on for a second or two and then was gone. It hit a suspending jerk bait.
Also had a bass come off while trolling. I was cranking it in and about half way to the boat it jumped and was gone.

Here's the waterfall at the end of a cove.

Here's a bass I caught while trolling using a bottom bouncer.

    Same bass.

Here's a white perch on the same bouncer.

That looks awesome actually, didn't realize there was a spot to launch from that far west. Probably going to check it out next weekend. Was there much shade during your trip, or should I expect to be roasting in the sun for a few hours?

The river winds it's way twisted so there is plenty of shade in the morning. Lots of coves are shaded too. There can't be any fishing pressure in many spots. You Hobie guys really need to peddle that area. Plenty of places to explore.

Having a pedal powered kayak would be sweet. Paddling that circuit is a lot of work. I was glad when I was finished and it wasn't even windy at all. Totally flat on Friday, so I was thankful for that.

It can't get much pressure other than BassMoore, especially when water levels are too low for boats to launch from Browns Bridge.

Much of the way there the reservoir was only 12-15 foot deep. Eventually it deepens and gets all the way to 40 feet deep at the Route 29 bridge.

yeah the upper end to me is a great place to fish bc of the little pressure

I was surprised how bad the water clarity was. It wasn't very good all the way to the Route 29 bridge.
I did enjoy the solitude. Next time I go I will focus more on fishing and less on trying to get to the 29 Bridge.

I did some calculations. If anyone wants to paddle from Browns Bridge to the Route 29 Bridge and back, the round trip is approximately 8.89 miles. No wonder I was tired.

That is a long ways up to the bridge. Launched at bb earlier this year and after looking at the map we only went about 1/4 of the way to the bridge. Seemed like we had current against us on the way back too.
