  • Rocky Gorge today

The fish weren't responding to fast moving lures like cranks and spinners today. I switched over to a green pumpkin hula grub on a 1/8 oz jig head and caught these guys

No skunk for you. How deep were you fishing?

They were holding mid depth around 8-12 ft tight to flooded timber. The water was also a lot clearer than it was a few weeks ago and the bluebird skies seemed to put them in a neutral to negative feeding mood. I got the green pumpkin jig idea from the Rocky Gorge reports last week. They must be keying in on small bedding bluegills and crayfish.

The biggest bass I've had on a line this year was hooked on a bluegill color lipless crank bait. I don't remember which manufacturer, that bass took the lure with it...

Totally agree the fish were not chasing today. Bassmoore and I went out from BB today at 5:15am and managed to catch them slow (shaky head, 4 inch worm, wacky rig). Once the wind picked up a little Bassmoore was able to go on a tear with a spinnerbait over the wood laydowns. All in all it was a decent day. I caught 14 and Bassmoore caught 17. Caught them all near the banks relating to wood. Same story at the Gorge. Next time I think we are going to go cranking in some channels.
