  • Mouth of Monocacy quick trip 6/5/14

Got off work early today and headed to mouth of Monocacy in Dickerson with the kayak. Ended up with 5 fish total, 2 decent smallmouth. One measured 13" and the other 12". Had about 3 more decent fish spit the hook before getting to the kayak too. Was a nice calm evening on the river. Was my first non-float trip on the river in the kayak. Lure of choice tonight was a small Rapala jerk bait. Def will be doing this again!

Yeah, ya sure do! Usually I go to one of the local lakes but something told me to try the river and I'm glad I did. Wasn't as tough paddling upriver as I thought it would be.

Where do you launch to fish the mouth of the Monocacy?

Nice smallies! I never fished up there and was wondering if I could use my trolling motor set up or is it too shallow and rocky.

The depth ranges anywhere from about 5" to 1.5" on. Not sure how much depth you need with your trolling motor. Jon boats are launched from the ramp there daily.

Do you mean 5' (feet) to 1.5' (feet)? 5" (inches) is a bit shallow, 1.5" (inches) probably wouldn't float my kayak.

The Orioles magic seems to be working for you too. That smallie looks bigger than 13". Nice fishing!!!
