  • 1st Post - 1st Fish of the Year

Hello All - I heard about the site from Chris at Delaware Paddle Sports; nice to have a local board for kayak fishing. I got out this past Saturday and it was beautiful. I was at the Outer Wall and ended up with a 15 1/2" and a 17" tog. Water temperature was hovering around 49° and I saw 50° near the pier. Going to head back out this Saturday and see what I can do. I look forward to learning from and adding to the board.

-Dan, what's the weather supposed to be like down there this Saturday? Tell me about the wind... I was thinking of coming down. Also, I am hearing reports about flounder coming in. Any info would be appreciated.

I'm seeing 14 mph winds at WNW for Saturday, 69° for a high temp.

High tide will be at 7:04 am, then low at 1:02 pm. (estimated).

I've heard reports of flounder in the shallows at/around the pier and a 19" was pulled out of RI last week. I also heard reports of some specks in NJ, so I wouldn't be surprised if they are around the Ferry Wall for us as well, or at least they will be soon. I'm thinking our water temps should be around 50° - 51°.

I'll probably be togging very first thing in the AM then come back around the pier for some flounder fishing.

Anyone else fishing this weekend? What are your thoughts?

Thanks for getting back to me Dan. It's a long ride to get skunked. There may be a couple more folks fishing if the winds aren't too bad. I will get back to you soon. Where do you launch from??

I go out next to the pier, at the second public beach in Lewes, at the public boat ramp off Pilot Town Rd...gonna try Slaughter beach access for some Black Drum next month...I guess my answer is anywhere that has parking, haha.

Thanks, and I can't agree more. I've fished off of the pier for a long time, many hopes of HUGE sharks as a kid off the end of the 'no-longer-there' T shape of the pier...huge being little sandsharks.

Not sure if anyone else checks this fishing report, but I try to go to the site every Friday AM to get a feel for the weekend.
