  • Cooler temps, top water smallmouth

With these cooler temps it seems the smallies are moving/staying up into the shallows feeding more aggressively. Fished last Sunday for a few hours at Riverbend and had a great buzzbait bite. Biggest went a little over 16"

Something I've learned about buzzbait river smallmouth fishing:

I use a 1/8oz triple blade strike king buzz bait in floro or white. I fish it with a skirt, I fish it skirt-less bare hook... or I'll fish it with a grub instead of a skirt. Never would think to throw a buzzbait with a bare hook, but it casts further stays afloat a lot easier and still gets those vicious smacks from the smallies that we all love

Figure I'd pass along the info

    Cool Justin.

I've never tried without some sort of trailer on the hook. I pretty much exclusively fish mine with a curly tailed grub or paddle tail fluke instead of a skirt.

I hope Saturday morning will be a good buzzbait day.

      Good luck on sat

Caught this one on a bare hook buzzbait, right below a shoot between 2 rocks
