  • Winter Series - DIY Projects - Crab Trap

Hey guys I've got a bunch of winter projects lined up right now but I got an idea today when I was doing a scan through Cabelas. Have any of you ever built your own crab traps?

I am thinking it'd be nice to drop a small pot or two when I'm out this summer with the hopes of getting a dozen or so crabs with minimal effort. I'm not sure if that's possible with out a huge trap, but I've seen some down in Murrells inlet that were homemade, manageable, and produced nice results. Anyone have any ideas or tips? I want something that I can "set it and forget it!" till the fishing is done.

I haven't fully given into winter being here yet, but it's about to feel like it over the next few days...

Better check the regs ........ don't think it's legal unless you have a commercial license or are a shore owner with a pier ........

Memory Maker is right. Only waterfront land owners can have two pots on their property. Anything else, for the set and forget type of trap, pots, must be with a commercial license. Big fine.

I think in other states it is permitted, will have to table this project...

        Oh well, next idea...

I have about 5 rods on the bench waiting to be made. I will imagine the many, many, many fish that I will catch with them. Well, I can dream anyway.

That's the same thing I think every time I tie a fly, although, it's only many fish, not many many because they always disintegrate!

dont think I'm done fishing yet. wiring for the ff and cp needs redone. I'd like to install an interior push light and same for exterior just to make it easier to fish and be seen at night. I may redo the tranducer mount, just doing a well w/ PJ rt now, works but messy in July/August. rods/reels need cleaned/lubed and coming up with ideas for trophy rock season.
