  • Throwing Artificials

What kind of artificial lures do you guys use around the bay bridge for strippers? Do you anchor or drift? I'm a shallow water fisherman that is lost in water over my head! My only bay fishing has been from a charter boat on the Delaware Bay for flounder and seatrout.

I throw Zoom Flukes or White 4'' Sassy Shads on 1/2 & 3/4 leadheads, swamp monkeys (http://corefishingtackle.com/CoreSwampMunkeys.html) because I know the guy who makes them and he makes me some custom patterns, and lately I've been trying to get in to the BKD game. I've been spending way too much time live-lining but I did stick a 27.5" that I got a picture of on a swamp monkey earlier this summer there.

Blues are thick right now, or they were last weekend, so you're probably going to loose a lot of tails. I lost 2 tails with no hook ups on my jig before I switched to a krocodile. Bucktails are a good alternative and can be bounced along or trolled. Rattletraps or 4-6'' diving crankbaits are a good alternative too but hard to fish the swift current at the bridge and get down to the structure you need it to.

I typically use 1.5 oz. bucktail with a twister tail, the sometimes strong currents makes it hard to fish with smaller lures properly.I've also hooked them with 5" swimshads .(talking about stripers)When you are out there look for structure, channels, bridge pilings ,lighthouses etc.Move around the more area you cover the more chances you have of finding them, these fish are constantly moving.
