  • Breakers at Poplar

I have learned taking a Thursday off to do a boat trip is best. Not too many boats out there. Did so a couple times this year and again yesterday.

Had the missus and her 13 year old niece from NJ so it was not a totally focused fishing trip. But the young lady did want to catch a fish in the Chesapeake Bay. Ran out of the South River and tried a few holes at the mouth. Not much but a few WP and spot. What I wanted to do is run over to Poplar before the tide went slack. Convinced the ladies that might be a good bet. Ran over and found breakers at the NW corner. We found all blues. Others south of the island reported spanish macs and some rock. Darn! Too many ladies on the boat!

We caught several nice blues then went inside Eastern Bay for lunch and tubing while avoiding those dreaded jellyfish. Seems to be a lot more on the western side. On the way back stopped inside the #1 buoy outside the West River and picked a couple nice 10" WP to finish off as nice an August day as could be.
